Bermello Ajamil & Partners designed the School of Business for the University of Miami, the first on the university system to place a major emphasis on environmental considerations. A thorough site
analysis and cost/benefit evaluation of building systems produced a solution that would yield energy cost savings while providing a focal point for pedestrian traffic and people-oriented spaces.
The massing of the complex, designed in an L-shaped building for faculty offices connected with pedestrian bridges to a five-story classroom tower, addresses the need to provide privacy for the
research-oriented functions of the faculty. The precast concrete facade of the building was designed to provide shade for all glass areas and reduced the air conditioning load.
