FLL Terminal 5 Groundbreaking Ceremony

BROWARD COUNTY, FL – On October 9, 2023, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Terminal 5 (T5). Bermello Ajamil & Partners in association with Gensler and HDR designed the 180,000 sq ft terminal that will be JetBlue’s primary hub, featuring aircraft facilities, a fueling system, a passenger bridge, and a shared transportation center. This state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance passenger experience and boost FLL’s capacity, preparing to accommodate nearly 52 million passengers annually in the coming decades. Emphasizing inclusivity and sustainability, T5 will feature ADA-compliant amenities and will target LEED Silver certification. Managed by JetBlue, this project underscores FLL’s commitment to growth, sustainability, and economic development for Broward County.
Highlighting the broader implications, FLL’s CEO, Mark Gale, indicated that T5 is foundational for future expansion plans, reinforcing FLL’s position as a key regional hub. The project not only symbolizes the future trajectory of aviation but is also expected to significantly contribute to Broward County’s economy, creating thousands of jobs and offering travelers an unmatched experience.
T5’s sustainable design, by Gensler and Bermello Ajamil & Partners, targets completion in Q2 2026, generating 1,000+ jobs during construction and operation, with LEED v4 certification.

Galveston’s fourth cruise terminal on track for autumn opening
Port of Galveston’s fourth cruise terminal is on track to open as scheduled this fall, according to CEO/Port Director Rodger Rees. BA’s scope of work which concluded in mid-2022 included architectural design, construction documentation, and construction administration services for the selective demolition and renovation of existing components of the Centereach Public Library, and the addition of two smaller buildings to support required alterations.
